In times of trauma and distress, one of our body’s brilliant coping mechanisms is to disconnect or dissociate–some symptoms of this coping strategy include overthinking, overgiving, pushing past our limits, self sabotage, or feeling stuck or frozen. The medicine is to get out of our heads and back into our bodies. This trauma-informed slow flow (vinyasa) class will bring us back to the body, the home of our emotions and intuition, giving us the ability to connect more with our inner knowing and move with intention toward the things we desire. Classes may include gentle breathwork, tarot or oracle card pulls/reflection, brief meditation, or chakra affirmations, depending on the energy of the week.
10% of the proceeds of this class will be donated to the PA Immigrant Coalition.
Note: What does “trauma-informed” mean in terms of a yoga class? Trauma-informed has been a bit of a buzzword and many people add it to class descriptions without committing to what it actually means. Coming from a trauma educator who also teaches yoga, to be trauma-informed means that students feel both safe and seen. This means touch is never provided without consent, variations and props are provided and encouraged, the option to pause and rest is always a choice (everything is an option!), and there will never be any triggering body talk around weight loss, beach bodies, etc.
